Our first seminar will be held January 27-29 to pilot our seminar format. It will focus on both understanding canine body language and using your own to improve your scent detection training and handling for sport Nosework odors. Friday and Sunday will be in-person sessions, Saturday will be on-line only.

About Your Instructors

Scent detection expert Dr. Carla Simon will joining Calgary WDC facilitator Katherine Olsen to bring you an informative and fun weekend focused on "reading your dog" and more.

Dr. Carla Simon

From bed bug detection to birds, from narcotics to nosework, Carla Simon has trained thousands of students worldwide since 1999.

Carla was the Founder of Sniff Alberta, and judges scent detection for CKC, K9 ABC Games, and is a Certifying Official for UKC Nosework. She trained teams for mantrailing and truffle detection for Power Dog Training Centre in Italy. As a longstanding member of the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), she served advised on the creation of national rules and scent judges accreditation as the Senior Provincial Representative for the Scent Detection Council. She is a peer reviewer, author and supporting member for the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants.  She has conducted Behavior Assessments for the Calgary Humane Society. In her capacity as a Canine Good Neighbor Evaluator, she organized Alberta’s first CGN test, and has evaluated therapy dog prospects, owner-trained service dog candidates and pets at events such as Pet Expo.
Currently, Carla Chairs the Working Dog Committee for the Canadian Association of Professional Dog Trainers. She partners with Citadel Canine Society (Canada's longest-running mission specific PTSD service dog provider), to train medical service dogs for veterans, first responders, nurses and 911 dispatchers. She can be found teaching Scent classes and more at Barrett Dog Sports, and the Beast Boutique.
More About Carla

Katherine Olsen (Keo)

After completing her DCBC certification, fostering and training hundreds of dogs, and teaching classes from puppy skills to reactive dogs, she finally started training working dogs starting with search and rescue.  She has a passion for the teamwork and fun required to motivate dogs to excel and strives to share that fun with all canine-human teams she teaches. Keo has a background in Mechanical Engineering, Masters level research experience, and many years of coaching youth and adult sports. This helped shape the systematic and scientific approach she brings to provide a quality coaching and learning experience for all students.
